page analysis
Kerrang- this
contents page has both a title saying what the page is about (contents) and the
title of the magazine (Kerrang). It sticks to the colour use of black for a
background but also adds a bottom half of whit where majority of the
informational text is. The font of the magazine title is the same as it is on
the cover and is in the same colour. The information is mainly kept to the
bottom half of the page however there are small amounts at the top next to
small images to inform what the images are about, however while doing this it
still slightly sticks to having 3 rows. It has page numbers next to each piece
of information however it only has the number and not the word page. It doesn’t
have any large empty gaps, and they managed to put an advertisement to their magazine
subscription on the page therefore making good use of any extra space. Its main
image on the contents page is still making direct mode of address but only
takes up the first half of the page.
Classic
Rock- this contents page only has the title of the page (contents)
and not the title of the actual magazine. The colour of this page contrasts
from their typical black front covers as the whole page is a very light
grey/white colour. There is only one image and it is of a man facing away which
I have not seen in any other magazines. The image purely is of the back of a
person with a guitar over their shoulder. It does not stick to the rule of
thirds as it only has 2 separate sections as all the page information and text
is to the right of the page. It is much organised and un-cluttered and actually
has a few big gaps where extra information or advertisements could be. Once again
it has the page numbers next to sections but not the word page.
Rock Sound- this
contents page doesn’t actually have a title saying contents however does say ‘main
features’ which still explains it is telling you information within the
magazine. Also it has the actual name of the magazine in the same font as on
the cover. The main image is once again the only image on the page however
unlike classic rock, the background is black which shows consistency between
themes. The main image is giving direct address and only shows knees and above
of the person in the picture. At the top of the page underneath the title of
the magazine, it has the date of the magazine release. It slightly sticks to
the rule of thirds but is hard to see it as all the information is once again
on the right hand side of the page in an organised fashion. Therefore meaning
there is once again a lot of wasted space. And the page numbers are shown
without the word page again.
This is my 3 contents page analysis on my chosen magazine genre. I mainly focused on the structure and style of the contents pages and tried to compare the 3 against each other.
