Initial Ideas/Treatment

MAGAZINE TITLE- Why have you chosen it? How might it impact on the concept of your magazine?

For my magazine title I wanted to use the title ‘The Loudest Silence’ but it was too long and not catchy enough for a magazine title so then decided to abbreviate it to ‘TLS’ which is easy and catchy but still has a link to my magazine due to the meaning of it. This shows my magazine as a younger and alternative kind of rock music magazine which is the kind of rock I’m trying to go for.

MUSIC GENRE FOR YOUR MAGAZINE- What is your primary genre?  Why is it going to be appealing?

My primary genre is rock, which is a mix of traditional rock and roll and pop. However I want to put a small alternative twist on it to appeal more to my target audience’s age range of 15-25. But still mention traditional rock music as well as more rock pop/indie.

UNIQUE SELLING POINT- What will be your USP? Why will this appeal to your target audience?

My unique selling point would be that my magazine will have a wide range of rock genres and bands/artists for example I will mention bands like the Beatles and the rolling stones but also mention bands like panic at the disco and the cab which put an alternative twist on their rock music. I think this will appeal to my target audience as people of a teen/young adult age still listen to old classics but tend to be more drawn to music of their time as it is all around them, therefore I want to express this in my magazine.

COSTUMES AND PROPS- What props and costumes are you going to use? Why? How will they appeal to your target audience?

Costume- for my male models I want them to be wearing skinny jeans, preferably distressed (either black or dark denim) with plain black or white T-shirts or T-shirts of rock bands. With plain black plimsoll/canvas type shoes and either a dark flannel or black hoody. For their hair I would want it swooped to the side and straight. For makeup they would have black pencil eyeliner on their waterline of their eye and a pale powder or foundation to take some colour from their face. For my female models I would want them to wear either black distressed denim jeans or shorts, a black pull over hoody (preferably cropped) or a fitted black vest top with a baggy black leather jacket or hoody. For shoes  they should wear thick souled canvas shoes, thick black choker round their neck and for make-up they need to have black flicked eyeliner above the lash line and pencil eyeliner on the waterline, they need pale foundation and a really dark red/purple lipstick. For hair they just need it down and naturally flowing.

This should appeal to my audience as it’s the typical dress sense for my target audience of both male and female and so therefore they can relate to the models of my magazine and make them feel more of a part of society.

Props- I want to use some red autumn leaves in the background of my images to give the image more natural colour. Want to use large speakers, electric guitars and acoustics guitars.

This would appeal to my target audience as rock bands typically use guitars and oversized speakers.

LOCATIONS- What location(s) are you going to use for your magazine photography? Why? How will they appeal to your target audience?

For locations I plan on using a room with a large old-fashioned window and door firstly to bring in natural lighting and secondly to use in the back ground of my images do express distance and detachment from society to then go on to show rock as an individual society. I also plan on doing shots in a room like this so I have complete control over lighting to make sure my images rent over exposed or are too dark. This will appeal to my target audience as it will express individuality.

TARGET AUDIENCE- Who are your primary target audience (Age, gender, interests etc)? How did you decide this? What will appeal to them?

My target audience is all genders between the age of 15-25 who are interested in all themes within rock music and like both classic and alternative rock. I made this decision as majority of people I know are around this description so I can get easy insight and feedback for my magazine.

What fonts and effects are you going to use? Why are they the best choice? How will they appeal to your TA?

For my font I want a clear and bold font to make it easy to read and it stand out from the page however I want it to be slightly ridged and sharp to make it edgy and suit the theme of rock music.
